Baryonic Matter in the Hidden Local Symmetry Induced from Holographic QCD Models
Baryonic matter is studied in the Skyrme model by taking into account the
roles of , and mesons through the hidden local symmetry
up to terms including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino (hWZ)
terms. Using the master formulas for the low energy constants derived from
holographic QCD models the skyrmion matter properties can be quantitatively
calculated with the input values of the pion decay constant and the
vector meson mass . We find that the hWZ terms are responsible for
the repulsive interactions of the meson. In addition, the
self-consistently included terms with the hWZ terms is found
to increase the half skyrmion phase transition point above the normal nucleon
density.Comment: Contribution to SCGT12 "KMI-GCOE Workshop on Strong Coupling Gauge

Isolation of p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde as an antibacterial substance from the saw fly, Acantholyda parki S.
AbstractWe purified an antibacterial substance from larvae of the saw fly, Acantholyda parki S., and identified its molecular structure as p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde. We then synthesized it by reduction of p-hydroxycinnamic acid. The antibacterial activity of the synthetic p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde was equal to that of the authentic substance. This molecule was found to have a broad antibacterial spectrum against not only Gram-negative, but also Gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, it showed antifungal activity against Candida albicans. We suggest that this substance may play a role in the defense system of this insect. This is the first report of p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde of animal origin
Učinci gama-zračenja na folikule jajnika
In order to observe the morphological and endocrinological changes of the rat and mouse ovarian follicles by gamma-radiation, rats were whole-body irradiated with doses of 3.2 Gy and 8.0 Gy and mice with 2.9 Gy and 7.2 Gy. Sections of ovaria were examined by light microscopy. Concentrations of progesterone, testosterone, and estradiol in ovarian homogenate were determined by radioimmunoassay techniques. Gamma-radiation resulted in the increased percentage of atretic follicles in the groups killed on day 0, day 4, and day 8 after irradiation. The decrease in granulosa cell viability was found in animals killed on day 4 after irradiation. The finding of the high ratio of testosterone to estradiol compared to that of progesterone to testosterone suggests that aromatase activity — steroid biosynthesis from testosterone to estradiol — in granulosa cell could be affected by gamma-radiation.U radu su procjenjivane strukture i endokrinološke promjene u folikulima jajnika štakorica i mišica izazvane gama-zračenjem.
Fabrication of submicron structures in nanoparticle/polymer composite by holographic lithography and reactive ion etching
We report on the fabrication of nanoparticle/polymer submicron structures by combining holographic lithography and reactive ion etching. Silica nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in a (SU8) polymer matrix at a high concentration, and in situ polymerization (cross-linking) is used to form a nanoparticle/polymer composite. Another photosensitive SU8 layer cast upon the nanoparticle/SU8 composite layer is structured through holographic lithography, whose pattern is finally transferred to the nanoparticle/SU8 layer by the reactive ion etching process. Honeycomb structures in a submicron scale are experimentally realized in the nanoparticle/SU8 composite. This work was supported in part by the US Air Force

Fasciotomy in compartment syndrome from snakebite
Background Local symptoms and signs of snake envenomation mimic the clinical features of compartment syndrome. It is important to measure the intracompartmental pressure to diagnose compartment syndrome. In this study, we present our experiences of confirming compartment syndrome and performing fasciotomy in snakebite patients based on high intracompartmental pressure findings. Methods The medical records of patients who visited the trauma center of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital from January 2010 to December 2015 for the management of venomous snakebite were retrospectively reviewed. Starting in 2014, fasciotomy was performed in patients with an intracompartmental pressure of more than 40 mmHg in addition to the clinical symptoms of compartment syndrome. Results A total of 158 patients with snakebite came to the hospital within 48 hours for treatment. Most patients (110 patients) were bitten at the upper extremities (69.6%). Since 2014, 33 out of 59 patients were suspected to have compartment syndrome, and their intracompartmental pressures were measured. Seventeen of those patients had a high intracompartmental pressure (average, 49.6 mmHg; range, 37–88 mmHg), and fasciotomy was performed. Conclusions In this study, as many as 10.8% of all cases were in need of fasciotomy when compartment syndrome was diagnosed by measuring the intracompartmental pressure. Previously, it was reported that fasciotomy was not required in many cases of compartment syndrome originating from snakebite. However, some patients may develop very severe compartment syndrome, requiring fasciotomy
Bright color optical switching device by polymer network liquid crystal with a specular reflector
The color optical switching device by polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC) with color filter on a specular reflector shows excellent performance; white reflectance of 22%, color gamut of 32%, and contrast ratio up to 50:1 in reflective mode measurement. The view-angle dependence of the reflectance can be adjusted by changing the PNLC thickness. The color chromaticity shown by the device is close to the limit value of color filters, and its value nearly remains with respect to the operating voltage. These optical properties of the device can be explained from the prediction based on multiple interactions between the light and the droplets of liquid crystal. The high reflectance, vivid color image, and moderate responds time allow the PNLC device to drive good color moving image. It can widely extend the applications of the reflective device. © 2011 Optical Society of America.1
Hidden Local Symmetry and Infinite Tower of Vector Mesons for Baryons
In an effort to access dense baryonic matter relevant for compact stars in a
unified framework that handles both single baryon and multibaryon systems on
the same footing, we first address a holographic dual action for a single
baryon focusing on the role of the infinite tower of vector mesons
deconstructed from five dimensions. To leading order in 't Hooft coupling
, one has the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS)
Skyrmion that results when the warping of the bulk background and the
Chern-Simons term in the Sakai-Sugimoto D4/D8- model are
ignored. The infinite tower was found by Sutcliffe to induce flow to a
conformal theory, i.e., the BPS. We compare this structure to that of the SS
model consisting of a 5D Yang-Mills action in warped space and the Chern-Simons
term in which higher vector mesons are integrated out while preserving hidden
local symmetry and valid to and in the chiral counting.
We point out the surprisingly important role of the meson that figures
in the Chern-Simons term that encodes chiral anomaly in the baryon structure
and that may be closely tied to short-range repulsion in nuclear interactions.Comment: 9 pages, REVTeX, to be published in Phys. Rev.
